How Readings Work

A Starwisdom reading focuses the sky around what is active for you right now. You can share as much or as little context as feels right. The more you bring to the conversation, the more personal the reading can become, but a few honest notes are enough to begin.

  • Share what's been on your mind — recent days, weeks, or what's ahead.
  • Answer a few focusing questions. Short answers are fine.
  • Receive a written reading and report you can return to.

You do not need to know astrology, read the Vision page, or prepare a perfect question before beginning.

A reading in more detail

Before you begin

For the best experience, set aside 30–60 minutes if you can. You can also start simply. A question, situation, or recent feeling is enough. You may find the process works best if you're somewhere quiet, where you can be a bit reflective. You can always pause and return if something comes up, but if more than a day or so passes, the reading will expire and you'll need to start over — too much of a delay and the astronomical data needs to be re-pulled.

If you want the details before beginning, they are here. They are not required reading.

Optional profile context can help personalize your reading, but it is not required to begin. If you add more in your profile once you sign in, the reading can use that context instead of spending as much time building a baseline.

The start

A reading can be generated purely from your birth data — and this is what many astrologers do. But on any given day your chart can have anywhere from 45 to 90 active transits between the current sky and your natal positions. When a reading covers weeks or months, the field of meaning becomes so vast that interpreting it from birth data alone is like throwing a flashlight in the ocean. The light will always illuminate something, and it might even feel deep — but it is much more powerful when it illuminates the right depths.

So we begin by asking what's been on your mind lately — the past few days or weeks — and what you expect or know is coming up in the near future. We then have a round of follow-up questions to make sure we have enough context to know where to direct the reading.

This lets us take that vast data set and know where in it to focus. We can pull additional data for specific days, examine the full arc of a transit from start to finish, or look backward and forward to see when something last occurred or will again. Narrowing in this way is what lets us go deeper on the things you actually care about.

Going deeper

Once we have enough context, you can proceed straight to your reading. But if you'd like to go further, you can continue with some questions that are less about building context and more about beginning to sit with what the sky might be asking you right now. These are entirely optional — you can answer briefly or with depth, whichever feels natural — but you may find they add something to the reading that context alone doesn't reach.

Your reading

When you're done, your reading will be generated. This can take as little as 10 minutes but is often closer to 30, or even a few hours, depending on the complexity. You'll receive an email with a link to the online version and a PDF attached. We're also exploring a podcast version for a small fee — if that interests you, please let us know.

The reading itself is a longer, deeper document. We'd suggest taking some time with it — reading in stages if that feels right — and noticing what surfaces as you sit with it. The journal prompts are there if you'd like to go further. And at the end of the day, whatever meaning you find in it is yours — we can illuminate the patterns, but only you can know what they mean for your life.

How interpretation works

Meaning-making is as much about your conversation with your own intuition as anything we do. Our tools are meant to help you see and hear what the stars are saying, but what it means is ultimately something only you can know. If you've invested in the process, we believe you'll find the result meaningful — but you are always the final authority on your own life.

The astrology and data

Your chart is calculated from the same high-precision astronomical ephemeris data NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory uses to navigate spacecraft to other planets. Before a single word of interpretation is generated, our engine computes the exact planetary positions and transit timings for your specific birth location and time.

The astrological framework

By default, Starwisdom uses the Tropical Zodiac and the Whole Sign house system. We chose Whole Sign because it is deeply rooted in the Hellenistic tradition that informs our work, and because it remains stable across all global latitudes. If your practice uses a different house system, you can choose one in your profile once you sign in.

The tools behind it

To generate your reading, we use AI — but only as one piece of a much larger system. The AI is combined with an extensive context framework, a real-time astronomical engine built on high-precision ephemeris data, a reference library of archetypal meanings, and a process of checks and verifications to ensure quality. A reading generally starts from your transit-to-natal chart but draws on far more data as it progresses — the AI acts as a translator between the geometry of your chart and the realities of lived experience, guided by that framework rather than inventing freely.

Privacy and boundaries

Birth details and personal reflections are intimate. We handle them accordingly. Sensitive profile, birth, session, message, chart, and report fields are encrypted at rest. Email remains readable because it is needed for login and account communication.

We run our own localized analytics rather than using platforms like Google Analytics — specifically to avoid third-party tracking cookies and ambient data harvesting. We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. This costs us — it means we can't target ads as effectively as companies that do — but we think some things matter more than optimization. You can read more about what we prioritize and why in our north star.
